When it comes to Naturopathic Telemedicine, what is your goal?
Usually to increase health; but we first have to define, what is health?
What is health? There are many answers to this question including: health is the absence of disease, health is the physical and mental wellness needed to have freedom to do all that you need and want to do with your life, or health is the optimal functioning of all of the body’s organ systems, tissues, and cells.
Where does health come from? My understanding is that health comes from obedience to timeless natural principles. Principles are like the unchanging laws of the universe including gravity, magnetism, and cause and effect. Our bodies are governed by these laws of physics, chemistry, and biology, along with psychology and other unseen factors. There are laws of nature that dictate what humans need to do to function properly. If we step outside the bounds of these laws, this is when disease creeps in. As Stephen Covey, author of “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”, is fond of saying, “We cannot break correct principles, we can only break ourselves against them.”
As a naturopathic doctor, I follow these 6 principles of Naturopathic Medicine when working with patients.
The Healing Power of Nature– Trust in the body’s inherent wisdom to heal itself.
Identify and Treat the Causes– Look beyond the symptoms to the underlying cause.
First Do No Harm– Never knowingly do anything that would harm the body.
Doctor as Teacher- Spend the time to teach correct principles of health.
Treat the Whole Person– Look at the picture of health in all areas: physical, mental, social, environmental, relational, etc
Prevention– try to foresee any health challenges that may be brewing and address them before they become a problem.
Through looking at the holistic picture of the habits of breathing, eating, drinking, sleeping, moving, and thinking, I guide my patients to increase the baseline of their health and then miracles can happen. Once we know our options, we get to choose where we want to be on the spectrum of health and disease through our thoughts and actions. Though we may have genetic or environmental challenges to our health, we can always make changes that can compensate for these factors. My calling is to help inspire my patients to see what they can change and gradually transform their health to match their vision and goals. Whether you are struggling with cancer or any other chronic disease, there is always hope. If you are ready for a change; if you are tired of feeling tired, then schedule a consulation today.
